--------------------------------------

Welcome back to another review and to another--rather fabulous--Eva Winners novel. Today, ladies and gentlemen, we'll be discussing the masterpiece that is Villainous Kingpin , book one in Eva's Kingpins of the Syndicate series.

If you're a reader of Eva and have read one of her previous releases-- Corrupted Pleasure --to be specific, you'll soon become familiar with the two people who are taking centre stage here this time in this novel. Wynter Star previously played a supporting character role in Corrupted Pleasure, and this time she and her not-so-white knight-, Basilio, are getting their own story.

Strap in, folks. It's going to be a hell of a ride! Or fall. You'll see why soon enough.

Basilio DiLustro.
Charming. Deadly. A monster dressed in a three-piece-suit.

Wynter Star.
Realist with the most romantic of hearts, hiding it all under her ice princess fame.

Though this is a brand new read in a new series, we're still getting many of the things we all know and love from Eva Winners and her characters. Basilio brings to the plate all the darkness, angst, broodiness of Eva's alpha males we love to love (and sometimes drool over, too). Again for those of us who've read Corrupted Pleasure will have already seen Basilio's first introduction as a character, but since we don't know more than the mysteriousness of who he actually is other than the few times he pops up, we're left wondering who he is-inside and out-until this novel. All those layers are slowly peeled away, mostly by Wynter herself, until we see the man beneath the mobster exterior. Under the villainous mask, there's a man. The self-same can be said for Wynter. There's more than meets the eye then the 'ice princess' we were introduced to before. Wynter's character development is extraordinary as she goes from mouse, to minx. Proud, brave and fierce. These two are a force to be reckoned with and then some.

This story also runs along the same timeline as Corrupted Pleasure , often piking up moments from that novel that we didn't know how they exactly played out. No spoilers, you'll have to read Corrupted Pleasure to see which moments they are, yourself. Villainous Kingpin plugs many gaps and holes--pun intended--and gives us satisfactory answers, not to mention a more than satisfactory storyline with twists, turns and more loops than the most looped rollercoaster. I have to applaud Eva for not only knocking it out of the park with this novel, but also giving insane accuracy to detail and not faltering on the timeline of events. So much goes on in Villainous Kingpin , but there's no confusion or overwhelming feeling. If anything, there's everything but that. Everything was so clearly and captivatingly written, I'm as smitten and besotted with Basilio as Ms Wynter is herself.

If you're after a story with full-blown angst, emotions up to your eyeballs, jaw-dropping scenes, intimate moments so personal you feel you're right along there with the characters & oh so much more, pre-order or pick up your copy of this novel t.o.d.a.y.

I'm very pleased to say right here and now, that I've found yet another top and must read of 2022. Eva never fails to bring it to the plate and serve up a five-star read, but every now and then one breaks the mould and is just one that you won't be able to stop talking about or recommending. This is that novel. Congratulations, Eva! And thank you so much!

Five stars!
