This one is hard for me to rate since my feelings about the book changed often while reading. The first half of the book was slow, and it took me awhile to get hooked into the story (if this is you then hold on because it does get much better in the second half). Even though there are elements that were pretty predictable, there were also twists and turns that I did not see coming (some of which I was on board with and some I did roll my eyes a bit). I enjoyed the remote South Carolina setting, and I do think the setting added to the overall atmosphere of the novel. Overall, I did not like this one as much as Willingham's early books, but I did enjoy it more than her last book published.
