What a lovely gem of a book!
At first, I thought it was an unusual choice to have an adult MC POV in what could essentially be called a YA book, but I really loved the execution of it: Jossan's POV adds depth and complexity into the world, and give us the opportunity to sink further into the worldbuilding and the politics of the island. I really enjoyed the magic system, the idea of the tower, Hans's cheecky charm and, of course, Etar — who is one of the softest characters I've ever read and he has my whole heart.
Lovely, lovely book, would definitely read more in this world!
