Getting the bigger picture of what Akira means is truly and experience. As a huge fan of the movie, I think anyone that appreciates it can find enjoyment from this series.
At six volumes, it’s isn’t an overwhelming commitment, and it’s chock full of some great panels and small moments.
All in all, I wish that they leaned more and fleshed out some of the more philosophical aspects of “the power” and what it truly means, as much of it is left for speculation. That being said, much more is elaborated on than in the film, so I’m still somewhat satisfied. The Tetsuo/Kaneda relationship leaves a little to be desired, and things feel very rushed in the last volume or so, but it still presents a truly entertaining landscape with a quirky story. Definitely recommend!
