Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk

5.0

Certainly this is not a book for those of you looking for some light-hearted reading. This book will slap you in the face and only when you've had the chance to stop and think for moment will you see the profound messages hidden within its intense, gruesome plot. I definitely learned about Palahniuk's style of writing here-- sarcastic and to the point. I can see where others would see him as a try-hard... in my opinion, I don't think he has to try. He makes it work. In fact, I'm pretty sure Palahniuk knew what he was writing would be despised and condemned by millions, and he made a great point in that aspect as well. Any writer who has the ability to allow me to discover a new perspective gets five stars from me. Admittedly this one did take me while to read because often times I would read for however long and then I would feel like I needed a break to digest it, if you will. I re-read different sections of it more than once. It is somewhat ironic, the effort I put into giving this novel a thorough read compared to the plot. Give Haunted a chance and your mind is guaranteed to be opened at least once throughout.
