There was an unsettling of dread during the whole book that didn't go away until the very end. So the author didn't outright state it, but I'm 99.99% sure that Miss Taylor was actually Giles' mother? The similarity in the photographs, the way she emphasised that Giles was Florence's half-brother, the fake identity, the mystery as to how she supposedly died?
