I enjoyed the premise about linking H.G Wells to Hiroshima and the POWs. I found that fascinating however the novel lacked a plot. The WW2 story felt like reading from a history book rather than a fiction/non fiction novel. The ending about the river I completely lost all interest in sadly and as these award winning novels seem to be, left me more confused than anything else. It had a lot going for it but it missed the mark
