*deep sigh* During the first two parts of this book I really thought I was going to struggle between rating it 3 or 4 stars.

But then you get to the third part of the book and oh my gosh, that sealed the 5 stars for me almost instantly. It may sound a little discouraging to know that you have to read almost 400+ pages to feel that but Kuang is such a great story teller. You’re sucked into this world of war.

I took a break from this book for a couple of days because Rin just frustrated me so much. She is so hot head and stubborn that I just needed a break from her for a while. But I needed to go back because I needed to see how this played out. And that’s Kuangs magic, you’re so invested in the characters because they’re so well developed and you understand (somewhat) the reasoning behind their decisions.

Although Rin frustrated me a lot 2/3 of this book, oh my gosh I felt everything she felt. The last couple of pages I felt so many emotions, every page was a whiplash of something new. I was heartbroken due to the course of the events. Then I was angry and I was damn near ready to jump into this book and fight WITH her lol. The switch I made from being frustrated to rooting for her threw ME off.

I am so hyped to read the third and last book of this series because THIS is ultimately what the series has been building towards to.

I would say it’s a medium pace book. Everything that has to happen and is introduce in the beginning in the book is resolved and answered by the end.
