I am so late to the party when it comes to this book but I absolutely loved it!
Sixteen year old Bree has just joined UNC- Chapel Hill’s early college program after the death of her mother. She’s this as the perfect opportunity to escape the memories of her childhood home; however, her first night on campus, Bree witnesses a magical attack which unlocks a whole new world for her and makes her question her mother’s death.
This story discusses grief, trauma, and deeply rooted racism in such a powerful way. Deonn does not shy away from speaking about difficult topics and incorporating them into her stories. I think this book was beautifully written and I am so excited to continue reading Bloodsworn and then Oathbound when it releases March 4th!
Moderate: Racism, Violence
