The 99: Origins by Naif Al-Mutawa
5.0

This was a recommendation from my fiance. This was a story they read in their childhood and it seems geared toward children. I took into account that the comic is for children before going into it and I really enjoyed it.It was a light read that I'm glad was the first thing I read in 2016.

I loved seeing the way it dealt with the Middle Eastern culture so heavily. The entire flashback section really pulled me. I was excited when it got to the present. We got to see how the stones came into existence in this origins, but also see the origins of the first member of the 99. Jabbar had a great origin story.I felt like there was some humorous moments even with how dark his background appears to be. Definitely haven't seen anything quite like it.

I had some questions about Dr. Ramzi and how he became so involved with looking for the Noor Stones, but hope that I may understand that more in a future issue.

I did expect the big reveal at the very end of the first issue, but was fine with that. I probably would not have seen it coming when I was a younger at all. Loved this so much that I immediately started reading the next issue we have.
