Gosh, this book was so addictive! Miranda has managed to create a setting that is so atmospheric and immersive that I managed to actually get super creeped out while reading! That's super unusual for me. The gist of the story is that Hazel is called back to her family home to help take care of matters after the passing of her father. While there, she is pulled deeper and deeper back into small town family matters, and she is left trying to sort out secrets that are slowly uncovered as the water in the town recesses (due to drought). The suspense in this story was real, and it kept me turning pages, wanting to know more and figure out what the heck was going on. Although I was able to guess the twist pretty early on, I was still left wondering if my prediction was correct. Regardless, the mounting tension in the book was intense and unique. Loved it! I've already been working through Miranda's backlist, albeit slowly, and this has motivated me to keep picking them up.
