Made in Manhattan
by Lauren Layne
this is such a cute, fast-(ignore that it took me a week to finish)paced read. and, just as a quick summary, it’s the new york, ceo-version of she’s all that (as said in the author’s note). and it does it very well! it’s not a heavy read, but it does tell a soft and warm story about two individuals who are trying to find their place in their makeshift/long-lost families and discovering how they, as themselves, should fit.
cain and violet have pretty good chemistry. it’s like an enemies-to-lovers, but at a low intensity. mostly biting arguments, but they’re light about it. they show each other new things, how to appreciate their surroundings, the people around them, themselves.
and the other cast of characters are pretty likable, too! we got alvin, the hypochondriac butler; edith, the loving grandmother; ashley, the supportive best friend who is our dear vi’s romcom expert; and even dear coco—or, as cain likes to refer to her, toto.
now, back to the library you go!
