The first half was mid, but it picked up in the second half! I'd say the first half deserved two stars and the second half deserved four so I'm rounding it to three overall. Part of my dislike might just be me, as I'm definitely aging out of YA, and as other reviewers have said, this is definitely on the younger side. I had a hard time suspending disbelief at first, and honestly I'm really tired of the whole "these two teenagers are mortal enemies" trope to try and make everything enemies to lovers. Like it can just be annoyances to lovers, this is just high school lol.
Anyway I love ghost stories so I did enjoy this! I wish there had been more ghosts and less magic stuff though but that's totally a personal preference. The writing was phenomenal though, I loved the style, there were some really gorgeous lines. I also actually did enjoy the romance despite how it started off, I liked the way their relationship progressed, and the ending was very well written, and had me much more invested in their story.
I would have DNF'd if it weren't for the fact that I'm trying to reach my reading goal and I already DNF'd a book earlier this month, but I'm glad I stuck with it, because I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I did at first.
