Congo: The Epic History of a People by David Van Reybrouck

sad fast-paced

1.0

Had to DNF this book as I was highly disappointed even offended. Although the historical facts are there the light in which this Belgian author paints the atrocities, and evil of Leopold, Stanley and the likes is infuriating.

He downplays the horrors my people endured during the time of the Congo Free State. There were several times  made out as if the savagery of those colonisers were of some benefit to the people.

Though I like the way in which it is written I.e not just a list of dates and facts, I think I will read other authors such as King Leopold's Ghost by Adam Hochschild
