Gudetama: Mindfulness for the Lazy by Wook-Jin Clark

Thanks to Netgalley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

What’s the best way to teach mindfulness? With cute Sanrio characters!

With stressful times like these, the wise words of the perpetually lazy and chilled out Gudetama is exactly what you need. The last few months for me have not been easy, so reading this is a much needed guide. It discusses the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, how to apply a mindful approach to difficult situations, and how to decompress from stress and how to approach it in a calm manner. It’s full of thoughtful messages, about taking care of yourself and being kind to those around you, even if it proves difficult.

I think the biggest benefit of this graphic novel is that it’s short, and so it’s perfect for the busy professional, or someone who doesn’t have much time. It holds your attention with cute characters and colourful illustrations that make the reading experience easier to digest. That’s a huge benefit if someone is being introduced to mindfulness for the first time. Not just for the lazy!

Also, Gudetama is just one big mood. I love him.

I think many people can benefit from this graphic novel. It’s short and to the point, and it has a lot of messages everyone could really do with hearing right now.
