Without Merit by Colleen Hoover
4.0

I really enjoyed this one! for me, it was the type of book that had me invested from the very first page. it is by no means a perfect book. I do think, however, that you need to take it for what it is. it is incredibly strange, bizarre, & problematic. the characters that make up the voss family (as well as the supporting characters) are so dysfunctional & chaotic, sometimes even unlikable.

please know going in that there are a lot of moving parts to the book. I think that is one of the things that I liked the most about it; I was intrigued and wanted to know more the entire time. It was never boring. I felt like I knew all of the characters extremely well despite the element of mystery & the secrets that were being held by every single one of them.

there is one character in this book whom I absolutely adored (luck..yep a coho name for sure lol) because he was completely ridiculous but so incredibly funny and I really think he brought so much to the table when he entered into this family!

I liked the mental health representation within the book and that the concept of GOING TO THERAPY was actually woven into this story (we all know that pretty much all of coho’s characters need therapy and that it doesn’t show up enough in her books!) I also really loved how this book ended. not everything was wrapped up in a perfect little bow with all problems solved. It would have been extremely unrealistic and my rating would have dropped if that were the case.

I did not like one really big thing that happened in the book and explaining would be a spoiler. I thought how this big thing went down was incredibly unrealistic. I hated merit’s attitude toward it after it happened and that the behavior wasn’t realized or rectified by her by the end of the book.
