The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley

5.0

**Third Read Review**
Why can I not rate this a million stars? WHY.

**Second Read Review**
Still just as incredible as the first (and second time) I've read it. I cannot wait for the sequel!

I finished this book in practically one sitting, and by the end of it tears were pouring down my face. This is an absolutely beautiful, heart wrenching, amazing middle grade story about the horrors of not only WWII, but also the horrors of everyday people and the pain and hurt they are capable of inflicting on those around them.

I honestly don't think there is enough praise that can be thrown at this book, but here are some things that I particularly loved: Ada's relationship with her brother, Jamie - not always perfect but always filled with love; the fact that Susan, the woman taking care of Ada & Jamie, was not perfect by any means, rather, she was beautifully and honestly flawed; the evolution of Ada's character and the realistic portrayals of PTSD after suffering so many years of torment under her mother; all of the side characters and how much they enriched the novel and the story.

Y'all, I just ... Oh goodness, I can't. You just need to read this book.
