As a first-time reader of Alissa Johnson, A Christmas Dance was a perfect place for me to start! A Christmas Dance, a holiday novella, was utterly charming, and, with only a little more than 100 pages, has turned me into an Alissa Johnson fan.
A Christmas Dance is about William Renrick, Earl of Casselbury, who has decided it’s time for him to marry. He’s a pretty regimented and organized guy, and he uses these skills to decide on the woman he will marry. But, of course, things don’t go as planned. Because the woman who catches his eye is not the one he planned on, but someone not entirely suitable. Patience Byerly is not really part of the aristocracy, but she is enjoying a season because friends of her father sponsored her. Patience is quiet, and rather plain. She’s also funny and captivating, and totally grabs William’s attention. But Patience has a secret that she believes makes her unsuitable for marriage. Even if she and William fall hard for each other.
You guys, this book was just so wonderful. I loved William so much. I was a little nervous that William would be too rigid, or maybe a little bit snobby, but he really wasn’t. Once he set eyes on Patience that was it. He didn’t really notice any other women after that, and it was wonderful. And Patience was such a sweet woman. She has a lot on her shoulders, and is just trying her best to help her father and enjoy the season.
Patience and William were so perfect together. Because novellas are on the shorter side, sometimes it’s hard to really feel like the hero and heroine belong together, but I so did here with A Christmas Dance. I felt their chemistry and their connection and that just made me so happy.
This book really made me want to read more by Johnson! She’s totally underrated, I think. A Christmas Dance was charming and I cannot wait to get my hands on more of Alissa Johnson's historical romances.This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook
