Thank you @grandcentralpub for my #gifted copy!

The World Record Book of Racist Stories is a tricky book to review because it’s simultaneously funny and horrifying. It’s funny because Amber and Lacey are funny. They are great storytellers and relate these tales in a way that is humorous, but never downplays the seriousness of racism in America and abroad.

As a white woman, reading this book was an eye opening experience. I cognitively know the racism that Black people face on a daily basis, and have heard my Black friends tell similar stories, but something about seeing them lined up one by one in book form really demonstrates in more tangible form just how pervasive these experiences are. I mean, Amber and Lacey have written two full-length books on the topic, and this isn’t even all of their stories!

I also really liked the chapter on white privilege, where they had some of their white friends share stories about being pulled over by police juxtaposed with their stories. I highly recommend this one.
