Rebirth Of A Panther by Jennifer Snyder, Jennifer Snyder
4.0

This is book one of the Ashen Tribe series and the main character is Neo Torres, the alpha of the Ashen Tribe panther pack. Because of his actions, his own brother Daxton, had their fellow half witch half shifter Miranda put a potent sleeping spell on him, hoping when he woke up he would have calmed down and the situation he had got the pack into would be over. Miranda has been unable to break the spell though and hires Kiera Wilder, who is a full witch whose expertise was mainly banishments and bindings. Keira has driven out to Crescent Creek, glad to be escaping a possible dangerous time in the city, with a room paid for. She meets the pack out on a small piece of land, with four trailers sitting on it, in the dark. Miranda greets her in a bit of a panic, not knowing why she couldn’t break her own spell, but Kiera is confident she can do it. When he suddenly awakes after a month, all he can see is Kiera’s eyes and Miranda quickly gets a vampire they called in, to wipe his memories! Neo feels a pull towards her, but has to satisfy his panther who hasn’t shifter for so long. After he runs out and shifts, Miranda pays Kiera and tells her she can stay in the motel for the rest of the nights it was already paid for.

Kiera is glad of the money to fix her car, and even meets Neo in the small town and gets invited out on a date with him. Somehow, she doesn’t manage to refuse his request. Far earlier than she expected, she gets a knock on her room and opens it thinking Neo was early, only to find it is the snake shifter Lucius who runs a huge shifter group in the city by using mind manipulation to force others to do as he says. He has caught up with her after someone asked for her help to get a relative out of his grasp, and she did a spell on him to make him lose his power. Only it seems he isn’t very happy about that and wants them back now! Getting away from him, the only place she can think of to go, is to Neo and his small pack of four. Neo has been struggling with the emptiness he can feel inside and his lack of memories, but has to believe his brother did what he had to, to save the pack, even if most have left now. He can’t seem to forget Kiera and finding her at his door and in trouble, brings all his protectiveness to the fore. He vows to protect her and when Lucious shows up, having a tracking spell on her, Neo ensures she is placed behind him and attacks the snake, who turns out to be a large python! Whether he has does enough, once the snake is badly injured and slithers into the forest, is questionable. As straight after, he takes Kiera into his trailer and they get to entwine their destinies further, realising what his panther had already figured out, that she was their mate. It looks like he and the rest of his pack will need to keep an eye out for this snake shifter, while they keep her safe, but they won’t stop what they want to do in the meantime.
