Through the Ashes by Julia Wolf

5.0

Love this author's style!

This is the first Julia Wolf book that I read and absolutely fell in love with these broken characters. This is the second book in her Savage Crew series which is exploring the darker side of new adult relationships, but you don't have to read them in order to understand what's going on (I started with this one). In this one we see Bex Lim and Asher Beck struggle to come to terms with a tragic event that inadvertently leads them to each other. The characters are in high school, but are dealing with more adult problems that most.

I couldn't help but fall in love with Bex and the way that she handles herself with her head held high no matter what situation she is put through. Asher and Bex get off to an explosive but rocky start. Asher puts her through hell after deciding to ruin her, but the friends she's surrounded herself with help her to stand tall. The pain and grief these two face is almost insurmountable, with the potential to allow it to tear them apart rather than bring them together. Julia Wolf wrote an amazingly strong female character that was able to recognize toxic behavior and pull herself out of it which is something you don't see enough of in these types of books! It has bullying elements but is definitely more of an enemies to lovers situation.
