So You Want to Be a Villain?
by ErraticErrata
One of the great webnovels. I very much enjoyed the first couple books, but felt like it picks up later on. This is a long series to read or binge.
Some stuff worth pointing out:
- There's a meta level to fights where the story matters: Villain vs hero, or succession, or rivalry.
- There's a war being fought, and named characters die in it. Those deaths have worth: it's not only the role that gets replaced (vanguard-type dies, gets replaced, mage dies and gets replaced, ... ) but people who have some impact in the scheme of things.
- Catherine gets picked up by her teacher, but claws hew way to power mostly on her own. (It's not a xianxia where the MC inherits peerless techniques at the start.)
As far as English webnovels are concerned, this makes up my triumvirate: Worm, Mother of Learning, and the Guide.
As for webnovels, it makes the top 10.
