Absolutely phenomenal. This read like a nightmare. New favorite.

Reread 2022:
This is my favorite book of all time. If I loved it less, I might be able to talk about it more. This book really introduced me to horror that makes you question reality. Its gruesome and beautiful and satirical and sad. Meanwhile, the themes about isolation and creation resonate with me on a primal level. Awad’s writing style is one of my favorites of all time, but is unconventional: it’s not that a single quote will stick out, but that the prose slowly spirals into obsession or insanity before snapping back to reality briefly, shocking the reader every time. This reread was a gift, and you can see me vlog it on my youtube channel: https://youtu.be/O4uY1IVbDBI
