The Lost Hero
by Rick Riordan
The reread odyssey continues! The Lost Hero felt like eating a meal you haven’t had since childhood, new and exciting but only with familiarity and comfort. Couldn’t stop thinking about how crazy of an introduction it is to a character to have him not know anything about himself, Jason Grace you were more nuanced than any of us were prepared for when this book first hit shelves, you deserve apologies for that I’m glad you’re getting them.
I had forgotten how much I deeply love Leo and I am so excited to see all his tomfoolery to come. Also was completely surprised by one of my favourite scenes in this book being when Piper and Aphrodite have the chat in that liminal department store, it was perfect, I loved the characterization of Aphrodite, she was different than I remembered her, but so grounded and divine. Not an easy line to tread !
Must say though, top favourite scene was actually the first chapter, or just that whole opening business at the Grand Canyon. Being in Jason’s head for that is such an exciting way to meet a character, love, love, loved it.
And Tristan McLean…. call me xx
