I enjoyed the character elements of this book, which you have to if you want to read James, but I felt that it lost some of its sharpness by prolonging the story. A short novella, like the Turn of the Screw, would have worked better. Still, an interesting character sketch and exploration of our own best intentions becoming our greatest enemies.
