Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah

4.0

Such a funny, honest and fascinating read.
I've seen Trevor Noah's few shows and i was really excited to learn about his life. It was really interesting read, he talks about his childhood, his culture and how he grew up in a humorous writing.

While stating his childhood memories and journey, he also shades some light on poverty, domestic violence, political injustice and apartheid. I must have been living under a rock as i didn’t know much about racial segregation in south Africa, this book taught me so much about South Africa history and political injustice.

Also Trevor mom, Patricia Noah is a strong, independent woman, she was always ready to fight the social stigma as being a black woman. She might seem selfish to decide giving birth to Trevor as out of her own will - not out of love, beside knowing it’s a crime for a child to be half white and half black. Also she has shown some abuse to her son but throughout the book she learned her mistakes and never repeated that to her other child. In this book i not only saw the character development of Trevor Noah but also his mother.

I will suggest you all to listen to the Audiobook, Trevor has narrated whole book in hilarious tone
