Oooo boy I can guarantee anyone reading this today (without critical thinking skills) will slap on a "problematic" label and move on from this book. And they're not completely wrong ! There are a lot of hmmmm.. how shall I say... interesting themes and moments in this book. Is it amazing? No, most definitely there are a lot of issues with it. However, as a novel, I think it does an amazing job at creating discourse and solidifying the author's message surrounding disability rights, love, and life.
It's a super easy read, lovely prose, and it poses some very interesting questions to discuss. Are there some icky moments ? Yes. Should that turn you away from reading it altogether? No.
