I have read this book twice now because it is different from most historical romances. There are no balls and fancy estates in this book it gives you an insight into the life of living in the rookeries and slums of London and that's what makes it a fantastic read. I loved that this book also involved real history with the murders and showed the horrible things that went on.
Kate is not your typical heroine, but also is at the same time. She is smart and strong and doesn't take anything off of anyone, but she is also broken because of everything that has happened to her. She doesn't want to rely on anyone again and thrives on being in control of her life now. At first, you may not like her, but you have to get to know her and you will slowly understand her and feel for her.
Danial is a different man than he was before, but he is still changing and finding his way. He was making a better life for himself when he was accused of murder and fled thinking that would protect Kate. When he came back he tried to pick up where they left off in a way and he ran hot and cold at times, but he also could see past everything that happened to Kate without judgment.
I knew there was something about Owen, but couldn't put my finger on it until it was revealed. I never knew what was going to happen next and I want to know more about the gentleman thief so much.
