Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang

5.0

An utterly incredible collection of short stories that incorporates science into so many aspects that I have previously never imagined before. Chiang delves into religion, morality, human perception and emotion in a way that is so thought-provoking. The language is so elegant and eloquent and every story leaves you with a sense of newfound meaning, like a seed of thought has been planted in your conscious that now has the potential to grow and affect the way you think and analyse your surroundings. The afterword sheds more light on the inspiration behind each story and serves as a glimpse into the mind that created them. I cannot heap enough praise on this short story collection; I originally picked it up after watching the movie Arrival, and as much as that movie is a masterpiece, I now realize, it is only one masterpiece in an entire collection of masterpieces.
