Puddin' by Julie Murphy

5.0

Millie Michalchuk is a phenomenal character that only Julie Murphy could have created. I think this book was better than Dumplin' because it was a bit more realistic, at least to me. I love that Millie wants to be a broadcast journalist despite her larger size. I love that a friendship between two girls that breaks social barriers is at the center of this novel. I love that there are conversations in this novel about sexuality and racism. I love that there are conversations about diet culture and self-love. It's a wonderful novel that would be extremely powerful for any young woman to read -- one of the best YA novels I've read in a long time.
