Listen, run, no don't walk, run and get yourself a copy of this book. This was such a beautiful and heartwarming read and if you're like me that heavy reads have on a choke hold, you'll enjoy this cute love story. It's literally a breath of fresh air!😍.
I absolutely enjoyed reading Call Me Legachi. It took me just two days to read it. Because I'm not exactly a fast reader and sometimes my attention span can be shit, I was so surprised by how I gave this book my undivided attention but really the author is my GOAT and I'll read anything she writes!. I didn't even read any reviews before reading this book(which is unusual because I tend to read some reviews of any book on my tbr list before I buy it. Once bitten, forever shy🙏) because I know my GOAT will always turn up!😍.
This book explores how much the lives and experiences of people around us pretty much mold, shape and influence our actions. Nearly everyone Legachi knew were in toxic relationships and didn't see any reason to leave them and this made Legachi endure all the abuse and insults Mezie meted out to her😔. She always thought her complains and anger were invalid because that was what she saw around her and I was so angry and sad while reading this book 😔.
Mezie is a gaslighter, a narcissist, a manipulator, an abuser. An all-round disgusting character🤮. The way he was always negging and talking down on Legachi in order for her to question her worth and make her feel less of herself was disgusting and I wish I can get the chance to throw hands with him😡. It shows how abusers literally destroy the self-esteem of their victims so they will never be free from their evil grip😩.
I really liked Legachi’s friendship with Nonye. Despite the fact that they didn't exactly know other before meeting in London and she seemed like a shallow person at first, she was there for her like a sister. It is a testament to how we can make friends in the most unlikely places and circumstances
I adore the character development in this book and how the author was able to explain the meaning of some Nigerian terms subtly without irritating indigenous readers and making us feel like we're not her target market. These were so well done!😍.
You guys will meet Mama Uju’s match if not senior in this book oo so brace yourselves🙏. She reminded me of Mama Uju from Tomorrow I Become A Woman and Obehi, Ose’s mother from Accidentally Knocked Up except she's worse🤭.
The themes explored in this book include Love, death, rape, abuse, toxic parental patterns, and betrayal. The writing is so warm and beautiful and I highly recommend!❤️.
