This is the first book that I read that isn’t covered by the anime I watched so it was entirely new to me and it was so painful. Xie Lian’s backstory was gutting. Then we have Hua Cheng rescuing him in the lake?! Astounding. Amazing. The link between the past and present made me vibrate with excitement. The thousand lanterns 😢 he loves him so much. Eating his cooking that nearly nuked the others. Qi Rong is lowkey hilarious. I love his awfulness. 

Also: fuck Mu Qing in the backstory I wanted to smack the living shit out of him. Feng Xin do it for me please. I don’t trust that bitch. mq you’re on my shitlist .
