hopeful inspiring fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

This wasn't bad, far from it. I feel like it was just good and it didnt grab me until the end.

Some pros:
I like that this book takes place in the span of a weekend. That was definitely unique and something I enjoyed

I like the incorporation of queer people in this decade. Based on the synopsis,
I assumed Doris would be the queer character, so I was pleasantly surprised to be incorrect!

 The narrator is funny

I do appreciate the hopefulness and the ending. I like how Doris didn’t get the change she was needing when she was 17. It was realistic and made the actual ending more satisfying.

Cons:
To me, it took too long for the characters to become likeable - mainly Doris. And too long for the story to be meaningful.
I personally think the chapters with Dexter/Erik were filler. Even though his character led us to a plot point that resolved a conflict - it just felt like a lot of the plot in these chapters didn't do anything to profoundly impact Doris - until the end.

It's hard to imagine Doris changing her thoughts almost completely after a weekend with new experiences - especially growing up brainwashed by church/religion. This fast change of thought wasn't real to me.

Overall, a fast and good read!!
