Shadowhouse Fall (the Shadowshaper Cypher, Book 2), Volume 2 by Daniel José Older

5.0

Sierra and her fantastically diverse group of shadowshapers are back in a fast paced, satisfying, sequel to Shadowshaper. Older seamlessly blends fantasy and reality to create a believable world where drawings come to life, spirits move among us, and police arrest and kill innocent black people… Yeah, that last part is reality knocking, and this book opens that door and sheds light on the very real frustration and anger felt by so many. But Older balances this harsh reality with funny, witty dialog, and just enough romance to keep you reading. The diverse cast of characters includes Puerto Rican, Dominican, LGBTQ, African American, and immigrant representations, to name a few, and each is written honestly and believably. The pace is fast and action packed, and like the first book, has a big climactic ending. I can picture this story being made into an awesome movie someday!
