Daughter of the Drowned Empire by Frankie Diane Mallis

5.0

I was sent an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Oh wow. This exceeded my expectations.
In the beginning I did find myself confused at the world and terminology being thrown at me without context. But the further I read, the more I learned. This method of world building kept me hooked as I was consistently wondering what everything meant and what would happen.

The magic in this world is so fascinating. The vibe of ancient Egypt and Rome give the story a mythological feel along with the different creatures mentioned as well.

I'm beyond in love with Rhyan and I am a huge sucker for a good angsty slow burn where the odds are stacked against the pair and their romances it lack thereof isn't the focal point.
Seeing Lyr's growth throughout the story (without me giving too much away) was fantastic. I loved the choices the author made in developing the heroine asking with her wit and attitude.
Even the characters that I despise were written beautifully and were very well fleshed out.

I'm looking forward to the rest of this series as that cliffhanger left me wanting so much more. I absolutely was not ready to finish this book.
