this was fairly fun. not very substantial, and it felt very 'teen' but in that way that's writtem more like middle-grade, just dealing with teen topics. there's nothing wrong with fluff, though, and this had quite a lot of fun stuff, and cool representation, even if there was very little depth.
the worldbuilding/background stuff for the Kalis also didn't make that much sense to me. like, were there really only 5 Kalis alive in the world? and if so, why were two in the UK and two in the US, despite the many other countries of the world, and why, especially, were there two, and thesister of a third , all living within a town of each other? one of those plot convenient things that's just super flimsy.
there were also quite a lot of typos/grammar errors/misuses of words or phrases. like several uses of '[name] and I' being used repeatedly where '[name] and me' would have been correct, several tense shifts, etc. not so much on the author as whoever proofread/edited and didn't catch any of them.
that said, this book was also pretty funny and readable, and would probably appeal more to preteens and young teens! and it did feature Indian, lesbian, neurodivergent, Black and ace rep, all of which we need more of and i'll always be rooting for in fiction!
