I gave up on this one about a third of the way in during my first reading attempt because things got way too teenage melodrama for my tastes, but I came back and it really redeems itself towards the later half of the book. The melodrama remains high but the focus is once again on the danger of the trees and the need to seal them.
The lack of focus this series has is starting to annoy me, but I already have the next book so we'll see if the Casts can stick the landing after stumbling in the middle.
