I’ve had this book on my shelf since middle school and I’m glad I read it now, as opposed to back then. I’m not sure the impact would have been as great without living life a little more.

Definitely a slow start and a little bit of a slog to get through in the first half, but it picks up in the second half.

The authors notes at the end of the book definitely help give some context to some things in the book.

Overall, it was good. While the reading level may be for a younger crowd, I feel like the story overall would be more appreciated by an older crowd. It’s definitely a slice of life type story set in a country I have a very base level knowledge of.

It makes me want to read more stories from Korea, or even some historical books about Korea. Reading about how the pottery scene was very inspired by Chinese pottery while being different enough to separate itself from China was super interesting.
