This book was and wasn't what I thought it was. I picked up this book, thinking it was a Crime/Thriller...and it is, but it also isn't...each reader needs just pick it up and find out.

The trigger warnings at the beginning of this book are REAL. If you are triggered for violence against women, then think really hard about this book.

I abhor violence against women, but there was something about the introduction of this book. that made me read this story...and now that I have...I will suggest it to many of my loved ones...who've had to suffer through this type of abuse...to read it, too.

Not all will (and that is okay), but I think that those who do (read it), we be able to work through some of their own lived past, to also gain in a cathardic way.

This book is a revenge book...and it is done really well (from my perspective), but also "sometimes" on the nose (and I loved every moment of it). Fist pumping in the air moments.

There were also parts of this book that made me squirm. Ugh, not into gore...and there is some of that in this story. It wasn't gratuitus, but very much necessary (for the authenticity of the story).

This is also a generational story (as is the epidemic of violence among women). There is a story for a Mother, a daughter and a grandmother (and for a grand-daughter, the younger one). For those who read it at a younger age, I do HOPE that you have someone you can talk to about the themes in this book...for this IS a heavy book to read.

Not all men are bad in this story, ONLY the ones that really are bad. AND, there are those dudes in this story. They are NOT caricatures...but are part REAL life (unfortunately TOO real in SO many lives of women). There is lived experiences with these types of men...who gaslight and manipulate women.

My own son-in-law was represented in this story...and now I have a book to give to our oldest daughter...that could possibly give her a "fight song" type of story to read and enjoy in that part of her fantastical brain area).

Obviously, this book was written during the pandemic era...for it FEELS that way, but that is part of its charm. We've learned a lot about humanity (good and bad) during the pandemic...and not all of it has been good (just look at Florida). Ugh.

The idea of The Violence was a personal story for the author (no doubt), but it is now for all survivors of abuse.

Lastly, as a person that is a citizen of this world, I don't condone violence (against anyone), but when it comes to protecting your family...get out of my way!

There is a LOT to unpack within this story. I can see someone (in the near future) using it as a book to be studied in University. Why it needed to be written AND why it NEEDS to be read. I actually think it is incredibly timely...and it will be for a LONG time (both fortunately and unfortunately).
