Luca's Magic Embrace
by Kym Grosso
Luca and Sam. Sam is a new witch who gained her power while enslaved and be-spelled in the last book. She doesn't remember her time as a slave, and that is probably a good thing! Shortly after she gains her freedom, one of the vampires (Luca) who helped to rescue her is taken and almost killed. But it turns out that she had been the target. Luca is drawn to Sam against his wishes. He likes his bachelor lifestyle and has reason to distrust love and happily ever after scenarios. Sam is in a tailspin from her sudden knowledge of 'Others/Paranormal' and her new membership to that side of life. I got a wee bit tired of her whindging on that, but it didn't ruin anything for me. Luca feels responsible for helping her discover just what the people out to get her, are actually after. I liked both characters. I especially liked Luca as the grumpy, difficult guy who fortunately stays that way throughout the series, despite finding love. The romance between him and Sam was a nice slow build with reasonable doubt on both sides to overcome, but overly prolonged. The mystery was good but not great and the 'badguy' was a bit predictable. But I loved the ending!!
