The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

2.0

I was so excited to read this book and maybe because of all the hype, I started it with the idea that it was going to be a masterpiece. I was disappointed.

This book was a fairytale. It told the story of Achilles and Patroclus well but that's it. There was no complexity of character or relationship and in my opinion when you are writing a book based on a known story you have to give it more than just retelling the story. I also felt that she told the story kind of fast, there was no clarity on everything surrounding Patroclus. I felt that it was being told as a theater story, where you have this scene, the characters say some lines and you get the idea of what's going on but there is no complexity of their inner thoughts and feelings (apart from Patroclus). And then the scene ends and you are 5 years later with another small part of the story.
