Das Gleichgewicht der Welt by Rohinton Mistry
One of the best books, Ive ever read in my life! Its hard to describe the feelings ive had after i finished it. The story is complex&intrueging and the characters are deep-layered and well written out. I will have to read it several times until i will grasp every detail. But although the book consists of nearly 800 pages i never had the feeling, that it was too much and overwhelming like books with a similar size.
The story itself was somehow depressing, telling gruesome details of poverty, caste violence and opression but its the first time, that a book from a canadian/indian pictured the reality of the majority of indian people living in poor conditions, dealing with corruption and injustice. At the same time you got a glimpse of life and of hope. I really liked the conception and build up of the story.
