5.0

Can’t decide if it’s a 4.75 or 5 star.

Cons:
* Beginning was slow again points and maybe a bit confusing initially.
* The ending was so wild it was almost too unbelievable.

* There were also points in the story I had to reread a few times to truly get what was going on as some scenes were mostly hinted at instead of really inclining at what actually happened.

However… The lore, the story, the tension, the build up, the mystery… it was delicious. Marvelously delicious. And it left me wanting more but in a *I must buy the sequel this instance* more.

I appreciate the fact that I did not see most of the twists coming despite my personal predictions. Too often in this genre are plots so predictable that the few times you find a plot that beats the odds is refreshing. That was the case for me here.

I especially loved the FMC. Her personality was both realistic and relatable that I found no issue following her along in her journey and felt sympathy for her. She was intelligent both in sense and education. She knew when to speak up and defend herself when appropriate (again, speaking to her common sense) and had both strength in her conviction as much as her physical prowess.

I loved the bits of romance we got to see. It wasn’t too fast and kept at a realistic distance due to the circumstances but enough to keep the audience yearning due to the tension between both characters.

Overall this was a great start to the series and I cannot wait for more.
