The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt

5.0

This book was on my ‘to buy’ list for a while but I never seemed to get around to it. Then I found it in a second hand shop and snapped it up, and I’m so glad I did. It’s such a great great book. It is set in the gold rush era in the US and follows Eli and Charlie Sisters (infamous assassins working for The Commodore) as they travel from Oregon to San Fran on their latest job. Their adventures on the way there and then the job itself are entertainment enough but it is the relationship between the brothers and the struggle Eli (the narrator) has with the morality of the job he has that keep you turning page after page. Highly highly recommended.
