Well, Merry sapphic Christmas to all who celebrate, and to every hopeless romantic because Kiss Her Once For Me just made it to the “top tier romance” entry in my romance dictionary.

This book might seem over the top and outlandish to some; this is after all a juicy love story where an arranged marriage that is supposed to be beneficial to both parties turns into an angsty fest when our groom, Andrew, introduces our protagonist, Ellie, to his family and it turns out that his sister is actually the woman Ellie fell heads over heels in love with last Christmas (crazy, but also delicious I know).

But to me, this is more than the average rom-com. Here, immaculate Christmas vibes and a romance filled to the brim with pinning are effortlessly interwoven with cosy and hilarious family moments, relatable characters, and discussions surrounding mental health, the fear of failure, and family expectations.

The heartfelt portrayal of vulnerability and depiction of anxiety is not something that’s new to Alison Cochrun’s writing. The Charm Offensive is the romcom I've recommended the most to people this year for a reason, but with Kiss Her Once For Me these moments take a new dimension: my heart felt so full. This is the kind of book that makes you emotional because you can only hope that one day a love like this, based on pure understanding and acceptance, finds its way to you.

Uh-uh, I’m getting cheesy, time to wrap it up.

If you’re looking for a magical, light-hearted but also angsty holiday romance with as many snowflakes as love in all its forms, please look no further. Alison Cochrun is becoming one of my favourite romance authors. If The Charm Offensive was a 4-star, this is a full 5 stars.
