Mathilde is a french girl who fell in love with a Moroccan soldier. She marries him and moves to Morocco, a country much different than the france she grew up in. The book shows what Mathilde's life in the country was like, and how much she struggled fitting in. The book was long and dragged on. It was good, but it wasn't for me. I didn’t relate or understand the white woman feeling oppressed and trapped in a foreign country, or her struggles with being a wife and mother. I didn't hate it, just wished the book would end.
