Married by Fate by Jenny Hickman

4.0

If you love arranged marriages with a twist, Married by Fate is the novella for you. The "arranged" aspect of the cliché is elevated to a whole new level in this short but extremely delightful book. This is the very first book or novel I've read by Jenny Hickman, and I thought her writing style was excellent. I believe that the relationship was developed perfectly, the length was ideal, and the pacing was wonderful. I also appreciate how the prologue and epilogue frame the narrative in its entirety. I'm delighted that both sides of the characters' stories are presented to us since it helps us understand why Caiman and Roisin do not get along. This novella, in my opinion, had excellent worldbuilding; I particularly enjoyed all the war and political aspects. Everything seems to have been carefully considered, and I had a great time getting lost in the book.

"My brother’s betrothed was like the sun because she burned those who fell out of her favor. The beautiful fae lit hearts ablaze and danced around the writhing flames until they were nothing more than ash and embers. And mine happened to be her favorite kindling."
