Yours to Keep is the sixth book in The Baker’s Creek Billionaire Brothers series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Vance Aldridge was in the military, and after he left, he decided to work for a different military-affiliated organization. But it turns out, they weren’t a “good” organization, and he ended up having to make a hard choice.
Darren “Dare” Russell is a neurosurgeon, and he goes to Baker’s Creek when his friend, Hayes Aldridge asks him to come and help at his new hospital. His family, namely his mother and sisters, are deeply invested in his dating life and want him to date someone, but he doesn’t want a relationship.
When Vance and Dare meet, there’s instant attraction, but neither wants to give in to it. Similarly, neither wants a relationship because of things in their past. They’re opposites: Vance is quiet and keeps to himself, Dare is friendly, outgoing, and very flirty.
This was my first solely MM novel, and it was okay. While this can be read as a standalone, you really miss a LOT if you don’t read the previous books. It wasn’t as noticeable to me in the previous books, but I think since this was the last one, everything was hinted at again.
Anyway, I really didn’t see the connection between Vance and Dare. It seemed like they just went from pretending they didn’t want each other to hooking up (but they didn’t really hook up) to love. I mean, Vance seemed to just suddenly love Dare, but there wasn’t really a development to their relationship.
That being said, this was still a great story. I liked how everything finally came together. And Dare and Vance both fell hard for each other when they finally opened up.
