Sage by Debra Rard Ledford

4.0

I quickly became engaged in the main character, Sage. Her determination and organization is admirable, something I have always wished to emulate, albeit not always successfully. Her need to learn and change her environment is also one that hit home to me. While I felt there was a preponderance of ‘telling’ near the beginning, it shortly resolved into more engaging action and dialogue. I greatly enjoyed the well-researched details of her hike and the survival techniques she employed.
The heroine is resourceful and independent, but at times it appears her plan goes too easily. She thinks of just about everything before it becomes a problem. I would like to have seen more conflict, more difficulties, more plans torn asunder by unforeseen events. I did love the interview processes, and the various people and attitudes. The author did a great job painting the scenes with description. In the end, the story was inspirational.
The passing of one character, though we barely met him, made me cry.
While there were a few editing errors, they didn’t distract too much from the tale.
