Ophelia is finally introduced to the court of the Pole, and is appointed Vice-Storyteller by Farouk. As Ophelia tries to avoid danger from her newly public role, important members of the court begin to disappear in mysterious circumstances. Meanwhile, the wedding approaches, and Ophelia's family on Anima suspect that she isn't revealing everything about her new life, and take matters into their own hands.

I can't decide if the translation is better for this book than the first or if I have just gotten used to the  translator's style and author's voice, but I liked this sequel better than the first. As with most fantasy books, especially those with significant world building, the sequel is less confusing as we become accustomed to the world, the magic, and their limitations. I also enjoyed seeing Ophelia use her abilities more in this book, as well as learning about the various powers of other characters and Arks.
The whole "God" storyline was a bit confusing, but got (somewhat) cleared up by the end of the novel...I'm still looking forward to a more thorough explanation in the third book of the trilogy, though!

Happy ending meter:
Happy-ish, but also a bit of a cliffhanger. Thank god I already got the third book from the library! :)
